Safe Sport Act Compliance

On February 14, 2018 the “Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017” was signed into law and became effective immediately.  This new federal law aims to prevent sexual abuse in youth sports creates standards for all youth sport organizations, including programs offered by local leagues, churches, schools, camps, and non-profits. The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 includes requirements for prevention training, prevention policies, and mandatory reporting.  This law is broad and does not make specific accommodations for different sports or special needs.

All registrants aged 18 years or older must comply with the regulations to have your registration approved.

We understand that special hockey is unique with is diverse needs, abilities and age ranges within each club.  In order to be flexible to meet the needs of each athlete, and comply with the federal regulations, the American Special Hockey Association has advocated for the following options:

1) Completion background screening authorization and abuse prevention training while registering for the ASHA season.

2) Review the "Safe Sport for Youth" with a parents or Guardian (Adult Athletes Only)

3) Request An Accommodation (Adult Athletes Only)

Each registrant is asked to provide proof of compliance to their Team Registrar or Team Manager.  Please follow the steps carefully to complete your registration.
